Roena Hatch Licht, age 81 of Vernal, Utah passed away on July 7, 2015 at the Uintah Care Center surrounded by her family. Roena was born April 5, 1934 in Vernal, Utah to Winfield Monroe Hatch and Theata Gilroy. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She grew up in Jensen, Utah attending local schools. She married Lynn A. Licht on September 17, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed together in the Vernal Utah Temple on December 3, 2011.
Roena grew up with a very strong work ethic, working at a young age along side her parents and brother Hal at the Boarding house in Little Bonanza. Also, as a young lady working at her Grandpa Brownie's café by the old Cobble Rock corner on Vernal's Main Street. She worked for a while at the old Safeway store, which was located where the bowling alley used to be.
Later, she was a teacher's aide at Maeser Elementary working with Donna Massey and Larry Abplanalp. Our family loved hearing stories of the fun memories she had made with the children there.
After working at the school, Roena worked at the Uintah County Courthouse when Morris Cook was County Clerk-Auditor as the Court clerk. Then around 1974 the state took control of the District Court system and Roena worked as Deputy Clerk of the Court. She retired after 27 years in the court systems. She developed close friendships with those she worked with. She had strong admiration for the judges and attorneys she became close with.
She loved her family very much. She was a good mom and grandma. There will be a place in our heart that only she can fill. We will miss her every day.
Grandma "Roe", as her grandkids called her, was very generous to all of them, slipping money in birthday cards and at Christmas time. Also, making sure they had a new outfit from her to start school in and one at Christmas time.
She loved bragging about how many word search books she had done in a week.
Roena is preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her parents, brother Calvin Hatch, son-in-law Craig Batty, and granddaughter Heather Erickson.
She is survived by daughter Rhonda Batty; Jeff Licht (Jeanie) of Evanston, Wyoming; brother Hal Hatch and wife Judy; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephew, whom she loved dearly. They were all her pride and joy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bowen, all the RNs, CNAs, and physical therapy staff at the Uintah Care Center for their love and compassion shown to our family and the "Roe" at this very difficult time. We also want to express our love and appreciation to Bishop Dave Chivers, the relief society for their compassionate services, and Jake Phillips.
Services were held under the direction of the Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Friends and family called Friday night July 10 at the mortuary from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. July 11 at Ashley 3rd Ward chapel prior to services. Burial was held at Vernal Memorial Park next to her sweetheart. We love you Grandma Roe. Until we meet again...
