Vernal

Ronald Steffen Trogstad was born January 13, 1939 to Edith Schoen (Germany) and Odd Steffen Trogstad (Norway) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our leader, father, friend, and husband left this world September 28, 2022 after several years battling dementia. He was 83 years old. Ron devoted his time and energy to raising his children to have a true appreciation and love for wildlife and the wild places that surround us. He shared his vast knowledge of these with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbor children and teens. He has been a leader all his life in his work and church roles as well as within his extended family and friends. In his early years, Ron was in the National Guard and on active duty from 1960-1961 when he served as a cook in the US Army at Fort Lewis, WA. He worked for the US Forest Service and then the US Bureau of Land Management. When he retired he loved to work on his land. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and generally had several of his kids and/or grandkids with him when he went. Ron and his first wife Carren were barely newlyweds when they took in and raised her two young sisters and mentored her brother after Carren's own mother passed. Ron is survived by his wife and friend of almost 23 years Lorna, daughter Dawna Malae, son Brant Trogstad, daughter Brenda Halbert (Bob), son Mike Trogstad (Kelle); grandchildren Cade Childs (Sierra), Nathan Martin (Summer), Cassie Childs, Savannah Martirosov, Justin Halbert, Jordan Halbert, Christian Halbert, Karston Trogstad and Oaklee Riley (Cody); stepchildren Kandis Lusk (Beldon), Jason Warren (Sarah) and Eric Warren (Jennilynn) and their children Donovan White (Kelsie), Jessica White, Vanessa Lusk, Maxwell Warren, Hazel Warren, Sprout Warren, Harold Warren, Asher Warren, Eva Warren, Lilli Warren, and Maryjane Warren; great grandchildren Aiden, Nevaeh, Jayd, Lily, Zoey, Quinn, Cadence, Ryder, Estella, Ridge and Skyla. Also, the nieces he raised Shawna Warrick (Curtis), Sherri Adams and John Gilroy (Joan) and their children and grandchildren. Ron was dearly loved by us all as well as by many, many friends, co-workers, neighbors, and acquaintances. He will be missed by all of us but taking lines from his favorite Willie Nelson song, "Someday when we meet up yonder, we'll stroll hand in hand again. In the land that knows no parting..." Ron's lifelong wish was to donate his body to medical science to further research efforts. There will be a private family gathering at a later date per Ron's request. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Online condolences maybe shared at www.AshleyValleyFuneralHome.com.
