Scott Austin Gudmundsen, age 71 of Vernal, passed away on December 22, 2025. Scott Austin Gudmundsen was born Sept 8, 1954, in Inglewood, California to Richard Austin Gudmundsen and Bernice Hattie Sayre.
He was the first son and 2nd in the family, joining his older sister, Joyce. They were later followed by Mark, Annette, Lee and Eileen.
Scott attended elementary through high school in southern Cali.
He grew up loving the outdoors and engaged in many activities throughout his life including hiking, bodysurfing, SCUBA diving, rock climbing, skiing, cycling, fishing and ice climbing.
Scott was proud of his Viking ancestry, being a descendant of the first King of unified Norway.
Scott was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life and served as a missionary in Dublin. Ireland and Texas.
He was married July 31, 1976, to Julie Leanne Bingham in the Los Angeles Temple. They lived in California, Nevada and Utah and had 4 children: Trent, Tracey, Tyler and Stan.
Scott served as a police officer with Vernal City for 13 years and later as Under-Sheriff for 4 years with Uintah County.
He struggled with a great deal of pain and health challenges for many years and bravely endured to the end.
Scott will be greatly missed and remembered by his children, siblings, friends and loved ones.
A celebration of life for Scott will be held Saturday January 3, 2026 at 11:00am at the Maeser 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 2575 North 1500 West, Vernal, Utah.
