Sheila Jane Spruell Belcher, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away in Provo, Utah on December 16, 2023, after a brief illness. Sheila was born on October 2, 1946, in Los Angeles, California to Bernie and Thelma Spruell. She graduated from John Burroughs High School where she was a song leader. She lost her father to an illness when she was 8 years old and had faith they would be joyfully reunited in heaven. She grew up with an older sister, Holly Walker, who she loved dearly. She found her half-brother Bernard Spruell and his wife Jane later in life, and they brought each other immense joy. Sheila met Curg W. Belcher, the love of her life, while both were attending Brigham Young University. They married in the Los Angeles Temple on January 28, 1967. After living briefly in Layton, Utah, they made their home in Vernal. There, this California girl adapted beautifully to life in the Uintah Basin and it became her true home. Her California sunshine followed her wherever she went. Sheila was passionate about books and shared this as a school librarian, she was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and Uintah football's number-one fan. She and Curg dedicated their lives to raising their five children, Shellie (Daren Anderson), Cassie (Derrik Tollefson), Connie (Mike Larsen), Marcie (Jordan Ison), and Allan (Kassie Bennett). She loved her 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with all her heart. She never wanted to miss attending any of their ball games or performances. Her family was her pride and joy. She treasured spending time with them, especially at Disneyland. She was energetic in every way, always up for a late-night movie or an ice cream run. She searched tirelessly for "that perfect gift" for her grandchildren and they will never forget her hashtags. She was an ironclad secret keeper and a dyed-in-the-wool Dodgers fan. She had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world. She lived for her family and had a fairytale life with her eternal sweetheart Curg. She left a legacy of unconditional love and kindness that will be carried every day by all who knew her. #Calgal Sheila is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Holly Walker. She is survived by her husband Curg and her five children, 16 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren as well as a half brother and spouse in Louisiana. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the Vernal LDS Stake Center (850 West 100 North). A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Saturday 10:30-11:45 AM at the Church.
