Sonya M Hauer

May 24, 1967 — February 4, 2022

Vernal

"I bet she is dancing!" Sonya Marlene Hacking Hauer passed onto her next life Friday night February 4, 2022 at 11:11 pm after a valiant battle against small intestine cancer. At 54 years of age, she was far too young to leave her rock star husband Rod Hauer. He fought her battle with her valiantly, but the ravages of her cancer could not be overcome. Sonya was born to Meriel C. Murray Hacking Petersen and Rulon Corless (R.C. Jude) Hacking in the old Vernal Hospital May 24, 1967. She was brought home from the hospital to Maeser where she was greeted by her brothers Mitch and Rod and sisters Susan and Shara Hacking. Sonya was adored and spoiled rotten by her siblings who constantly fought over who got to hold, tease, and pester her. She went to school at Maeser Elementary, Vernal Jr. High, Uintah High School and Utah State University. Sonya served a mission in the Hartford, Connecticut Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. She then moved to Los Angeles, California where she took acting lessons. She relocated to Salt Lake City where she worked in the mortgage business. Sonya then settled in Vernal where she met her future husband Rod Hauer. After a five year courtship, Sonya and Rod married April 9,1999 in Vernal, Utah. Rod and Sonya have really enjoyed their 22 years of marriage. After selling their business, System Communications, they booked a cruise through the Mediterranean Countries. This trip started their love of traveling by ship. They enjoyed the stress-free vacation lifestyle the ship offered. They continued cruising through the several other countries including some favorites; Antartica, Panama Canal, South America, Italy, Fiji, Bora-Bora, Robinson Caruso Island, Caribbean Islands, Cook Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Holland, Norway--just to mention a few. They have attended many year's worth of youth sports and activities. They have thoroughly enjoyed watching their children, nieces and nephews and later grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews. Covid slowed their active lifestyle and Sonya's cancer diagnosis kept them home more. Sonya fought cancer wholeheartedly with Rod at her side. She has been taken into her Heavenly Fathers arm's where she is impatiently waiting for him to join her. Though not by Sonya's choice, she has left behind her Hauer family consisting of Rod Hauer; Amber (Doug Buist), Aidan, Addison; Krista Keddy, Konrad, McKinley, Karter; Kelsy (Joey Wark), Hudson, William; and Matt (Melissa Mitchell), Taylor, Kyson, Jacob. Sonya's mother Meriel and father Jude are with her in Heaven along with her brother Rod. The Hacking family left behind includes Mitch (Lisa Jacobsen) , Marissa (Beau'de Oaks) Daegun, Hayden, Thailer (Colby Bigler), Kai Bigler; Dace, Harper, Renlee, Callen; JD (Whitney Southam), Navy, Niya, Nova, Axen; Susan (Brad Horrocks), Josh (Erin Cammack), Dalli, Rigden, Hatch Stone, Eden; DeeRulon (Brynna Henderson), Lucy, Ledger, Lottie, Goldie; Jhon (Jessica Wiseman), Rielee, Oakliey, Devereaux; Joriel (Aaron Howcroft), Kassandra, Alex; and Shara (Craig Buttars), Ashley (Brad Rich), Cooper, Ryker, Sawyer, Harper; Michelle (Eddie Hutchison), Carson, Sophie, Preslie; Stephen (Chelsey Creger), Maizey, Holland; Rod Hauer (Sonya's husband).
