SPC Alex Paul Ruppe was the first born to Norman and Shelly Ruppe of Vernal, Utah on December 29, 1998. He passed away suddenly on the evening of Sunday, January 8, 2023, while on active duty for the United States Army in Fort Hood, Texas. He enjoyed working out, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Alex's father passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack when Alex was just 17 years old. The sudden loss of his father left a large hole in his heart. He found peace in weightlifting and participating in the Mr. Uintah bodybuilding competition. Alex graduated from Uintah High School in 2017. Alex stayed in Vernal after graduation to assist his widowed mother, his brother Jacob, and his sister Jenny Ruppe. In 2018, Alex met and fell madly in love with Felicia Ewell. They soon married and have two young children: Norman, and Grace. In 2019, Alex enlisted in the United States Army as a Combat Medic, accepting a role dedicated to helping people during their most difficult times. He deployed to Wisconsin in support of Operation Allies Welcome where he was able to assist in providing medical care to thousands of Afghanistan refugees. In 2021, Alex's mother and maternal grandfather passed away. He was able to speak at their double funeral. In 2022, Alex lost both of his paternal grandparents. One may say that Alex became a man acquainted with grief. He will be missed by his wife Felicia, his two children Norman and Grace, his brother Jacob (Sarah Montgomery), his sister Jenny, his grandmother Pamela Austin, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. As a family, we have found that the poet was right when he wrote, "The saddest words of tongue or pen are these: It might have been." We will miss you, Alex. We trust you into the Almighty's arms.
