Stanley Albin Anderson passed away early Fathers Day morning, June 16th, 2013 at the age of 82. He was born March 22nd, 1931 in Roosevelt, Utah to Albin Emanuel Anderson and Ada Rhea Hanson.
He graduated in 1949 from Uintah High School and attended the University of Utah. He married Crystal (Chris) Maxine Openshaw on January 16th, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He began flying at the age of 14 and eventually obtained a commercial pilot license. Through the years he flew in excess of 400 hours of search and rescue. He held the rank of Major while serving as Commander of the Vernal Squadron of the USAF Civil Air Patrol; often flying in adverse weather conditions, he walked away from three unexpected and forced landings.
He had a total of 12 years and 6 days with the military, being discharged as a lieutenant with the US Army Corps of Engineers (combat). His full time employment included: truck driver, office manager, insurance sales, and corporate financial officer. He served on many local and statewide boards, including the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was President for one year. He also served as President of the Utah Consumer Finance Association.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held many ward and stake positions over the years. One of his last callings was with his wife as co-director of the Vernal Family History Center. He also enjoyed serving in the Vernal Temple. He treasured the gospel and loved to share his testimony with others, especially his family.
He cherished his family and was proud of their accomplishments. Most of his time was spent in the service of his family. He and Chris had two children: Lori (Kent) Ross and Rod (Terri) Anderson all of Vernal. They have 12 grandchildren: Kristi (Eric) Wall, Trisha (Craig) Dixon, Stefni Jo (Aaron) Young, Jeff (Amye) Ross, Kellie Ross, Devin (Sarah) Anderson, Kasi (Jarom) Fishburn, Niki (Justin) Evans, Scott, Derek, Dani Alise, and Collin Anderson. And 10 Great-grand children: David Wall; Danielle, Natalie, and Ben Dixon; Stockton and Daron Ross; Brinlee and Kolby Fishburn; and coming soon Ada Mae and Lucy Evans.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 22nd at 11 am in the Ashley Stake Center, 475 W 100 S, in Vernal. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Internment with military honors will be in the Vernal City Cemetery.
