Sylvia Martinez-Lind

March 12, 1943 — February 16, 2024

Vernal

Sylvia Martinez Lind, 80, died peacefully of natural causes in her home in Naples, Utah on February 16, 2024. Born on March 12, 1943, Sylvia led a full and vibrant life and was much loved by her family and friends. Sylvia was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Vernal, Utah, and was named Woman of the Year by her congregation in 2006 for her dedication serving as an officer of the Ladies Club several times, CYO Advisory Council, Coffee Service Coordinator, Eucharistic minister, member of the parish council, and being a 3rd Grade CCD Teacher. Her children watched her dedicated example, which led them to participate in various activities such as altar serving, youth groups, and Eucharistic ministry. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved to cook for her family, and who loved sharing stories of her years growing up in Dragerton, Utah. She loved fishing, luncheons with the girls, trips to Colorado to buy scratch cards with her friends Geri, Tommy, and Carol, and visiting with and making friends with anyone she encountered. Sylvia was a softhearted cat lover who found it hard to ever turn away any stray. At the age of 50, Sylvia went back to school to become a nurse. She first worked at Uintah Basin Medical Center (UBMC) in Roosevelt before transferring to their Home Health Department, which led to her becoming a loving hospice nurse. This was a service that fulfilled her greatly until the day she had to retire. It was during her nursing career that she worked with and made a very special friend, Rose. Sylvia provided loving and respectful care to her patients and families, giving end-of-life care that preserved people's dignity and provided serenity in the last moments of life. With this same loving compassion, Canyon Home Care & Hospice provided Sylvia with end-of-life care. We, her family, will always be grateful to them for that. Although it was later in life, Sylvia met the love of her life, Kenny Lind, whom she married in 1998 and spent 17 glorious years with until his passing in 2015. Sylvia is survived by her children Lonnie Juarez (Adriane), David Juarez (Sue), and JoAnn Juarez; her grandchildren Jaymes Juarez (Shalane), Gabriel Erick Juarez (Marley), Lucas Shaun Juarez (Mayra), and Jevin Juarez; her great-grandchildren Jameson and Jade Juarez and Ellison and Callahan Juarez; her sisters Inez DeVargas (Tircio) and Martha Martinez Valle; her cherished nieces and nephews Dene Gordon (Carl), Cindy Shreve, Kim Candelario (Valarie), Tracy Candelario, Jasmine Hatsis (Zach), Joseph DeVargas, Lori DeVargas, and Ashli Parker; and her much-loved extended children Dennis Lind, David Lind, Steven Lind, Richard Lind, Loretta Fontaine, Camille Martin, Leann Southam, Shona Bowden, Karen Hansen, and Andrew Mitchell. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents José G. Martinez and Anita Velasquez Martinez, brothers Joe D. Martinez and Gilbert J. Martinez, nephew Sean Leo Martinez, husband Kenneth Ray Lind, and stepson Darris Lind.
