Terry H Barker passed away on August 14, 2024 at the age of 80. Terry was born on August 24,1943 to Gladys and Ken Barker in Vernal Utah. Terry Married the love of his life Aleen Merkley on June 4, 1962 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Terry worked for the Uintah School District for 30 years as a custodian and maintenance worker. He had a love for the students at the learning center. Terry had a love for Mules and doing pack trips into the High Uinta mountains with family and friends. Before losing his leg to cancer, he looked forward to doing yearly trips and had quite the pack string of mules. He had a love for the mountains and would make many trips to cut firewood. He would split wood for his neighbors or anyone in need. He had a love for farming, and was always passing out eggs and goats milk. You could always catch Terry out on the farm with his right hand man Leroy. The neighborhood won't be the same without Terry on his four wheeler shooting prairie dogs, any chance he could get. Terry and Aleen had many opportunities to Foster children. They loved to help, and many times they became part of the family. Terry loved people. Talking and teasing everyone but always there offering a helping hand, to anyone who needed it. He loved serving in the Temple with his bride, and would do so regularly as his health allowed. Terry loved dancing with Aleen, and they enjoyed going dancing at the Golden Age Center every Friday night to the Newel Harmony Four Band. All the ladies loved to dance with him because he was such a great dancer. His kids and grandkids loved to tag along to the dance with Grandpa any chance they could get. Terry had a love for old time country music, such as Hank Williams, Jim Reeves, and Ray Price. Terry loved when the family would get together and enjoyed spending time with everyone. He enjoyed a good card game and played regularly with friends and family. He is survived by his wife Aleen Barker; his three children, Teralene (Brian) Slaugh, Clark (Linda) Barker, Rita (Gene) Smith; Leroy Alires; 11 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also survived by his brothers, Bryce (Carol Jean) Barker, Monte (LouAnn) Barker; his sisters, Kay Atwood, and Sue (Reid) Cook; his in-laws, Connie (Ned) Cook, Lynn Merkley, RaVae Merkley. Foster kids, Cindy Hale, Scott (Christie) Beckstead, Bob Edelhuber. He is preceded in death by his parents Ken and Gladys Barker; parent-in-laws Arvid and Oral Merkley; brother-in-law Mac Atwood; sister-in-law Letha Barker; brother-in-law Ray Merkley; sister-in-law Jean Holfeltz; and foster child, Darrick Hale. Funeral services for Terry will be held Tuesday August 20, 2024 at 11:00am at the Maeser 4th Ward LDS Chapel (3040 North 1500 West). Viewing and Visitation will be held Monday from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home, and Tuesday from 9:45am ~ 10:45am at the church. Interment in the Dry Fork Cemetery under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
