Terry Scott Lange

September 28, 1960 — February 21, 2025

Vernal

Terry Scott Lange, age 64 of Vernal, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025. He was born on September 28, 1960, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Susie Jackson Lange Fornstrom and Bill Lange. He grew up with a love for adventure, a passion that followed him throughout his life. He graduated from Kimball County High School (Nebraska) in 1979 and, in December 1984, married Shelly Kellner Lange. Their sons Derick and Zach were born 6 years apart in different States as they moved around the Midwest following the oil patch, finally settling in Vernal in 1995. Terry worked in the oilfield for several years before he and his family founded Elk Ridge Energy in Vernal in 2000. After Derick graduated, they expanded the business together to a 2nd location in Gillette WY, which was moved to Williston, ND in 2008. By 2009, Terry was able to retire as Derick bought the majority shares of the business. Retirement was his gateway to truly living life on his terms-doing whatever he thought of every single day. Just the past couple years, he did decide to go back to driving semitruck for Rhett's Trucking and truly enjoyed that until he had a bad fall out of a Semi in California in 2024 that put him back in his easychair for a while. Terry never met a stranger. He had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend, striking up conversations wherever he went. Whether he was checking off items on his bucket list or just out poking fun at those he loved for the day, he had a knack for leaving an impression on those he met. His passion for the outdoors was undeniable-he loved jeeping, riding four-wheelers, side-by-sides, and motorcycles. But above all, his true passion was hunting. Any chance he got, he was out in the wild, doing what he loved most. He spent countless hours meticulously reloading ammunition, fine-tuning loads for his hunts for himself or his friends, and sharing his knowledge with friends who needed help with their guns and gear. Nothing made Terry happier than sharing his passions with his family, especially when his boys joined him on one of their many adventures. He cherished every moment spent with his grandkids, passing down his love for the outdoors whenever he got the chance, and joining them as they learned passions of their own. Terry is survived by his wife, Shelly; his son, Derick (Lacy), and their two children; his father, Bill Lange; his brother, Doug (Karen); and 2 nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his son Zach, his mother Susie, his infant sister Sandy, and his grandparents. Though his time here was too short, Terry lived life to the fullest, embracing every adventure and leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His spirit will forever ride the trails, roam the mountains, and live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As he roams in your heart, you'll hear him say: "Glad you got to see me!"
