Terry "Butch" Douglas Mace, age 69 of Vernal, graduated peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 11th after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on June 22, 1955, to Clifford and Bernese Mace. Terry was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, and a friend. He married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Cartee on February 18, 1975. They were married just short of 50 years. Terry was born in Provo, Utah and lived in Springville for several years. He was one of 12 children, so the Mace kids were famous for terrorizing the neighborhood. He lived in Morgan, Utah when he met the love of his life, Pamela. When Pamela's family moved back to South Carolina, Terry got on a Greyhound bus headed east to be with her. They got married soon after and started a family and moved back to Utah. He was a truck driver for many years. He drove many miles over the road and spent a lot of hours running up and down the rig roads and lease roads, both in a water truck and in a winch truck both in the Evanston, Wyoming area and in the Vernal area. He had a great big love for his family and friends. He would do anything in the world for them. He loved his kids and his grandkids so much, even when they were following in his footsteps and were being holy terrors. He was so proud of each and every one of them. It didn't matter how bad you had screwed up. You always knew you could go to dad, and he would understand. He loved tinkering with anything mechanical. Had a knack for fixing anything, even if he had no idea what he was doing. He would figure it out somehow. If he couldn't figure it out, it would lay in pieces on the shop floor until he could figure out something to do with it or rob parts off of it to fix something else. He always said if it doesn't move and it supposed to, use WD40, and if it moves and it's not supposed to, use duct tape. He was famous for being a collector of priceless treasure, or in other words, he was a pack rat, a trait that he inherited from his father, and gladly passed to his son. When someone would ask when are you going to throw that away or get rid of that, he would gladly inform them that you never know when you might need just that one part and not have it if you threw it away. He would gladly give a lonely tool on the side of the road a new home, be it a hammer lost in the middle of a lease road, or an old busted up wrench or screwdriver. He never found the elusive 10 millimeters socket though. Going to the dump was like Christmas though. If he went without adult supervision, there was no telling what kind of treasures he would bring back. Terry is survived by the love of his life, Pamela; his children, Shannon (Tyler) Ford, Brandon Mace, and Erika (Stephan) Hickerson. Grandkids, Mac, and Isabel Ford, Kyler Mace, Kamdyn, Tobi, and Arayah Hickerson. Brothers and Sisters Ron Mace, Nancy Francis, Gloria Fowler, Vicki Hone, Tami Stewart, Marty Mace, and Rodney Mace. Terry is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Bernese Mace, Brothers and sisters Marilyn Dennis, Robert Mace, Clifford "Skip" Mace, Sharon Mace, Shannon Mace, and many close friends. We would also like to say a special thank you to Amy Olsen FNP, Dr Steven Wallentine and staff at Revere Oncology, and the ladies at Canyon Home Care & Hospice. You have no idea how much you helped Terry and his family during his final few years fighting his cancer and more importantly his final few months to make it as comfortable as possible with as much dignity as possible.
