Tren Hirschi

March 17, 1926 — November 25, 2014

Tren Stratton Hirschi rejoined the love of his life November 25, 2014 at his home in Vernal, Utah.

He was born March 17, 1926 in Hurricane, Utah to Fern Stratton & Dewey Hirschi.

As a boy he gathered wild horses that he trained during the winter and used to gather cows in the spring, and later sell the horses. Tren had a genuine love of horses and a natural horse sense that he passed to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After high school graduation, Tren enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a Radarman on the USS Bottenau in the Bakini Atol Islands & the South Pacific during World War II. He was honored to serve his country and passed that honor to his children and grandchildren who have also served in the Military.

Tren met his wife Gracia in Rockville, Utah after he was discharged from the Navy the end of 1946. Tren and Gracia were married August 26, 1947 and sealed for all time and eternity at the Salt Lake City Temple on March 22, 1954. Together they raised three children: Stephen Thorton Hirschi, Gordon Dewey Hirschi and Charlene E. Gray.

Tren loved his grandsons: Geoff, Chris, Nathan, Jason, Scott, Sean, Travis, and Jesse. He was especially fond of his granddaughters Ann & Maren. He adored each of his twenty four great-grandchildren.

Tren and Gracia lived in Kamas, Jensen, Ashley, and Vernal.

Tren ran the "Old" Standard station on main street from 1962-1977. During his retirement years he worked for Bradshaw & Five Star auto parts, he also worked for True Value.

After the death of his wife Gracia, he later married Laura "Rusty" Rasmussen, they were later divorced.

Tren always worked hard. He taught each of his children to be hard workers as well. Tren loved the mountain and enjoyed cutting wood and sharing time at his cabin he built with his family. He thought the most special day of all was Christmas Eve when he hosted the family dinner. Tren liked working in his garden, he raised a garden every summer including this past summer.

Tren is preceded in death by his parents Fern and Dewey Hirschi, his wife Gracia and his grandson Sean Hirschi.

Tren is survived by his children Stephen (Louanne) Hirschi, Gordon (Carol) Hirschi, Charlene (Steve) Gray all of Vernal; ten grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; brothers Birrell, Orell, Marlo and Scott; sisters Peggy and Emma.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11A.M. at the Vernal 5th Ward Chapel (200 West 250 North). A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6~8PM at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Monday 9:45~10:45A.M. at the chapel. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery with Military honors provided by the American Legion Post 11.
