Velda Anderton

May 15, 1928 — July 25, 2013

Velda Hoopes Anderton passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, July 25, 2013, surrounded by her sweetheart and her family. She was born to Joesph Orval Hoopes and Eva Myrtle Smith on May 15, 2013 in Whiterocks, Utah. She married Eldon Fullmer Anderton on June 20, 1949 in Whiterock, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 10, 1964.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having held many positions including -Young Woman's President, Relief Society President, Nursery Leader and Temple worker. She was a hard worker and she loved to crochet, playing softball, sewing, baking bread, embroidery, playing cards, reading and she had beautiful handwriting. Her family was her pride and joy-bringing her much happiness. She was married to her true love and eternal sweetheart of 64 years. They are true examples of love, compassion, and dedication. They have blessed their family, friends and to all who knew them as they loved each other. Mom, we love you and you will be greatly missed.


Velda is survived by: Husband-Eldon Anderton; Children - Dan (Linda) Anderton, Jackie (Clifton) Southam, Joella (Bill) Batty, Ren (Paris) Anderton, JaNeen (John) Floyd. 25 Grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren. Sister - Veda (Petro) Forakis and many nieces and nephews.


She is preceded in death by: Her parents Joseph Orval Hoopes- Father, Eva Myrtle Smith Hoopes.-Mother; Sisters- Beatrice Reed, Mildred Moosman, Melba Eksund, Zella Pike; Brothers- Stanley "Bud" Hoopes and Bill Hoopes. And grandsons, Joseph Chet and Jeremy Martin Anderton.


Services were held Monday, July 29, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Naples Chapel 2313 South 1500 East Naples, Utah. Friends and family called Sunday evening from 6-8pm at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment was held in the Tridell Cemetery under the direction of the Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
