Virginia Allred

May 2, 1928 — March 28, 2015

Virginia Dow Allred passed away on March 28, 2015 in Vernal, Utah. She was born on May 2, 1928 in Vernal, Utah. She was the daughter of Donnell C. Dow and Magdelena Jacobsen Dow. Virginia spent her early years in Rainbow, Utah, where her dad worked as a mechanic at the Gilsonite mines. They later moved to Vernal where she graduated from Uintah High School in 1946. She married Jack Blaine Allred on August 21, 1948 and settled in Vernal. They celebrated 62 years together before he passed away on September 28, 2012.

Virginia worked for several businesses in Vernal before settling at the family business, Jacks General Tire, where she retired in 1993. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was alway there to support their interests.

When her boys were growing up she was a Primary Teacher and Primary Secretary. She spent seven years as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts and ten years as head score keeper for the little league baseball. She was very proud of her membership, over thirty years, with the Current Topic Club and the things they accomplished and gave back to the community.

Virginia looked forward to her trips to the cabin on Diamond Mountain with Jack, family and friends. Her sister Melva called it her "little piece of heaven". She had no fear of white water running and enjoyed many trips, some for several days at a time. Indian history and artifacts were a big apart of her life. She went on many trips with friends hunting arrowheads and had fond memories of all those trips. She was an avid reader and spent many hours every day reading her newspaper and books. Horseback riding, which she started at age 50, was something she always looked forward to.

Virginia is survived by her three children: John (Jeane), Don (Polly), Rand (Beckie); six grandchildren: Shona Johnson, Alicen Taylor, Katie Grubaugh, Jared, Derek, and Drex Allred. Five great-grandchildren: Megan, Tessa, Carter, Annette and Abbee. One sister Bobby Pit, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donnell and Magdalena Dow, a brother Carl Dow and a sister Melva Allen. Also her sweetheart, Jack.
