With love and cherished memories, her family announces the passing of Winifred Smith Pilling, who departed peacefully on March 24, 2025. Winni was born in Scotland as the fifth child of Annie May Baker Smith and grew up surrounded by the beauty and traditions of her homeland. It was there that she met her future husband, Larry Pilling, while he was serving in the Navy. Their love story led her to the United States, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. A devoted mother of four daughters, Winni dedicated her life to her family. She is survived by her daughters Sylena Colton, Shelly Handley, Heather (Kevin) Stark as well as her son-in-law Joe Maguire. She was also a proud grandmother to 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandbaby, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She is also survived by her beloved siblings Peter, Thelma, and Cynthia of the United Kingdom. She had a deep passion for dance and could often be found on Friday nights at the Golden Age Center, dancing the night away with Larry by her side. She loved the outdoors and treasured camping trips just as much as she enjoyed indulging in one of her favorite pastimes-shopping. Wini was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge, where she found friendship, community, and plenty of lively gatherings. Winni was preceded in death by her mother, Annie May Smith; her beloved husband, Larry Pilling; her daughter, Cindy Maguire; her son-in-laws, Darly Colton and Lon Handley; her grandsons, Adam Maguire and Lonnie Jr. Handley; and her sisters, Peggy, Lillian and Christine. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to hospice and to Nurse Misty, who became like family to us during this journey. Your kindness, care, and support brought comfort to both Winni and her loved ones, and we will always be grateful. She will always be remembered for her feisty spirit, adventurous soul, and boundless zest for life. Whether dancing, exploring, or sharing a hearty laugh, she embraced every moment to the fullest, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Funeral services for Winni Pilling, wife of the late Larry Pilling, will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00AM at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday 9:45-10:45AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park.
