Wyatt Benjamin Wood

October 18, 2005 — May 20, 2025

Vernal

Elder Wyatt Benjamin Wood, age 19, passed away unexpectedly from medical complications on Tuesday May 20th, 2025 at his home in Vernal, Utah. Elder Wood was born in Vernal, Utah, on October 18th, 2005 to Johnny Shane and Jeanne Wood. He was the youngest of 10 children. Wyatt was a curious and active child. He never slowed down and kept his older siblings busy chasing after him. Many times they couldn't find him as he would find any way he could to unlock the door when they weren't watching him - they were constantly running after him before he got to the road, or before he fell off the edge of the roof (yes, he did climb on the roof, we only knew he was up there because we could hear the pitter patter of his little feet). There was never a time that he didn't keep them on their toes wondering where his adventurous spirit led him when they took their eyes off him. When they would catch him going out the door, he would look at them and say "Bye, love you. I'm leaving forever" in such a matter of fact way. Wyatt wanted to be like his older brother, Aaron and his pediatric neurologist, Doctor Fillioux - in that he always wanted to be bald (by the way he never was, except once when he gave himself a haircut). Wyatt loved going to school. He was homeschooled kindergarten-3rd grade, then attended Athenian Academy Distance program from 4th grade-10th grade and beyond. He was able to attend with his sister, Ali, who taught there, and enjoyed interacting with all the kids, who loved to include him in their activities and crafts. Wyatt loved keeping his hands and mind busy, and loved creating. He learned how to do origami, and made many transforming ninja stars, which he would give away to people. He also loved putting together lego sets, some with the help of his parents. Wyatt loved music. When he was a toddler he loved having his siblings sing to him, or play music for him as he woke up after his seizures. One time his siblings re-enacted the entire VeggieTales "Ballad of Little Joe" movie because they couldn't get the DVD to work for him. He loved listening to church hymns, the Piano Guys, especially Steven Sharp Nelson playing the cello. He would walk around with his cell phone playing music. He loved to share the videos he was watching with everyone. Wyatt has always loved church. When he was young he would try to run up to sit on the stand with the bishopric. One time he made a run for it in the middle of church and was only caught by his dad because he paused to look behind him to see if anyone was chasing him. When Wyatt was young he loved doing "scripture study" with his sister, Ali. Every day before bed he would ask her to study with him, which consisted of them reading the sacrament prayers. When he was old enough to bless the sacrament, he was able to do so partially because of his "scripture study" with Ali. Ever since Wyatt was a toddler he wanted to serve a mission. For a long time we didn't know how that was going to be possible. Thanks to Bishop Massey's encouragement, Wyatt put his mission papers in and was called to be a service missionary in Vernal. He was set apart as a service missionary in December 2024, and served until he passed away, fulfilling one of his lifelong dreams. Wyatt was the perfect example of Christlike love. He was patient, kind, and loved every single person he ever encountered. He will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. Thank you to his family members, his ward members, his friends at Walmart, the temple, and missionaries for the love and kindness they showed to Wyatt. One of Wyatt's favorite things to do was to play Uno. Please play a game of Uno with your family in memory of Wyatt. Elder Wood is preceded in death by his grandparents Arlo and Patricia Wood, Earl and Jeanne Gross, and his brother Joshua Wood. He is survived by his parents Johnny and Jeanne Wood; brothers Jonathan (Emily) Wood, Aaron (Allyson) Wood, Wesley (Courtney) Wood, Braden Wood; sisters Caitlin (KC) Hunting, Rebecca (Patrick) Ditty, Rachael (Taylor) Robinson, Alison (Preston) Giese, sister-in-law, Jamie Wood; and his best friends, his nieces and nephews Zakery Wood, Kaylex Wood, Grayson Clark, Nathan Wood, Makayla Wood, Brynlee Wood, Ethan Wood, Diana Wood, Kati Wood, Kai Wood, Zayn Wood, Kaycee Jo Hunting, Dracaena Hunting, Killian Ditty, Liam Ditty, Amelia Robinson, Spartan Giese. A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8PM at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Wednesday 9:30-10:45AM at the Church.
