Devi Cheryl Johnson Deaver was a unique, inclusive, fun, loving lady. She was brilliant, funny, and kind. Devi's singing voice was legendary in Southern CA where she sang at many churches, minor league baseball games, and funerals. She was a remarkable cake decorator and seamstress. Devi was in many plays that she starred in and others she directed. Known for her kindness and protection of others, her friendly ways and laughter endeared her to many. Devi loved a good party. She enjoyed being the center of attention and was very competitive at playing games. Her enthusiasm for life served her well as a wife, mother, friend, and in the many years of service she gave to her church family.
Devi was born on July 23, 1950, in San Diego, CA, where she was raised. She met her husband Tom Deaver at a church activity while they were both attending college. They were married on January 5, 1973, in the LA Temple as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They spent their years together in San Diego, Pocatello, ID, and Bellflower and Hemet, CA. They had 7 adorable children. After Tom passed in 1997, Devi and her three young children moved to Grapevine, Texas to be near her parents and siblings. Devi worked at the Boy Scouts of America headquarters in Euless, TX and absolutely loved it. Upon retirement, she moved to Utah to live with her children. Her later years solidified her standing as one tough cookie and a crazy ball of delight. She loved Amazon, Door Dash and every person that passed through the door. Simply put, Devi adored and loved and was adored and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche(Otten) and Bill Jack Jonte, and her biological father Leroy Johnson. She is survived by her siblings, Darlene(David) Freed and Rodger(Deborah)Johnson, and all of her 7 children and 13 grandchildren. Her children are Becky Griffin, Ed(Kacie) Deaver, Chris Deaver, Marianne(Stephen) Touron, Andrew(Christina) Deaver, Matt(Hailey)Deaver, and Melissa(Matt) Ward.
Celebration of life for Devi will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 1:00pm ~ 3:00pm at the Vernal 7th Ward Chapel gymnasium. Wear fun clothes, and tiaras to Celebrate Devi's life and play some of her favorite games in her memory. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
