Ed Forsman Obituary
If youd ever met Ed Forsman, two things were abundantly clearhe had a big, strong heart, and he loved God and his family deeply. After battling multiple myeloma for the last year, that strength continued until he took his last breath, surrounded by his girls, with his wife holding his hand as she had for the last 40+ years.
After 64 years, Edwin I. Forsman entered into eternal life on Friday, August 10, 2018 in Salt Lake City, UT. Eddie was born December 5, 1953, in Anaconda, MT, to Einar and Marjorie (Hogan) Forsman. Thanks to some match-making by his eventual brother and sister-in-law, on September 1, 1979, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Hasenkrug, in Great Falls, MT. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Jen and Amy. Being their father was his most treasured role and the greatest joy of his life. He received his Bachelors Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Montana Tech in 1985, and worked for 17 years at the Bureau of Land Management, followed by 12 years at EOG Resources, where he retired in Vernal, UT, in 2016.
In 1986, Eddie was severely injured in an on-the-job accident and told he would never walk again. Friends who knew him later in life couldnt believe it when they heard this, as he was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours trekking through the mountains on hunting expeditions, fishing, walking the golf course, and working in his garden. This was a testament to the strength, courage, and unmatched work ethic he has shown throughout his life.
Eddie never met a stranger, and seemed to find friends everywhere he went. If you knew Ed at all, you knew his passions: hunting, fishing, bowling, golf, Denver Broncos football, gardening, basketball (especially Gonzaga basketball), his dogs, his friends, his family, and most of all, his three girls. He was always quick with a smile, generous to a fault, and never passed up a ride in his beloved mountains, especially in Montana. He always put others ahead of himself, whether that was plowing snowy driveways for elderly neighbors or whipping up a huge batch of his famous cashew brittle to bring his nurses.
Eddie taught us many things, such as salsa isnt hot unless it makes you sweat, never talk badly about anyone unless theyre there to defend themselves, and if he didnt tease ya, you wouldnt know he loved ya.
His family will miss his infectious smile, incredible meals he whipped up at a moments notice, being shot by ice chips from across the room, his Donald Duck voice, and the way he always flashed the sign for I love you, with his hands. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Forsman; two daughters, Jennifer (Sean) Stoyell of Apex, NC, and Amy (Sterling) Merrill of Rock Springs, WY, his beloved grandchildren Liam and Amelia Merrill, and his mother-in-law Mary Hasenkrug of Great Falls, MT. He is also survived by brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives too numerous to name but not forgotten.
Eddie is reunited with his sister-in-law and cancer buddy, Debbie Bowen, his parents, brother, and father-in-law, and was surely greeted with abounding puppy kisses from his beloved dogs Maggie, Bailey, and Annie, waiting for their treats each on their own step of heaven.
The family offers a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Djordje Atanackovic and the rest of the team in the Multiple Myeloma clinic and the Huntsman Cancer Institute for the incredible care and compassion they have provided Ed and Kathy over this last year. The family would also like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Hope Lodge in Salt Lake City, which became a home away from home and a soft place to land during an incredibly difficult time.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday, August 24 at Ashley Valley Funeral Home, 410 N 800 W, Vernal, UT, and 10-11 AM on Saturday, August 25 at St. James Catholic Church, 138 N 100 W, Vernal, UT.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 AM, Saturday, August 25 at St. James Catholic Church.
