Elden J. Buckalew, our loving husband, father, son, brother, grand-father, and great-grandfather returned to his Heavenly Parents and other loved ones on August 30, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born on April 14, 1939 to Clara Myrtis Hale and Silas Eldridge Buckalew in Duchesne, Utah. Elden married his best friend Geraldine Denver on September 5, 1959 in Roosevelt, Utah later solemnized in the Salt Lake Utah Temple. They were blessed with two children Kym and Burke Elden Buckalew.
He enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with family. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Vernal, Utah surveying and engineering on the Ashley National Forest. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in the bishopric, high council, executive ward secretary, temple ordinance worker, and most recently ward clerk.
Elden is survived by his beautiful wife Gerrie, children Kym (Claye) Robb and Burke Buckalew, sister Elaine (Blaine) Carter, eight wonderful grandchildren: Brooke (Ryan) Richins, Whitney (Jake) Phillips, Lindsey (Jake) Price, Branson (Tyler) Buckalew, Kelsi (Steven) Giles, Madisen (Ezra) Petersen, Brinli (A.J.) Olschewski, and Denver (Kaycee) Buckalew, and 26 great-grandchildren.
Elden is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Alice Marie Thomas and Elva Grace McAfee, son-in-law Claye Ronald Robb, brother-in-law Kent Elmer Denver, and four great-grandchildren Ocean, Knox, Piper, and Lola Phillips.
Services will be held September 6, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Vernal 8th Ward chapel, 1499 West Highway 40. A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Wednesday, 9:45-10:45 A.M. at the church. Interment will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
