Fern Lambert Obituary

Our sweet mother, grandmother and great grandmother Fern McCarrell Lambert (91) passed away May 1, 2020 in Murray, Utah following a short illness. During her lifetime mom lived in Vernal and Salt Lake City, Utah, Orange, California, and Sandy, Utah.

Mom was born April 3, 1929, in the Davis area of Vernal, Utah, to Theadore and Pearl Bell (Evans) McCarrell and grew up in the Vernal area. She was educated through high school in Vernal where she participated in the home economics club and Uintah High School band. Her emphasis in high school was secretarial courses which eventually led to her career as a professional secretary. Mom insisted that her high school education was completed before her marriage to Dean A. Lambert in 1947. To this union were born her four children: Bob, Ken, Kathy and Brenda. Mom loved them dearly and always expected them to do and be their best. As a result of her efforts her sons were returned missionaries and Eagle Scouts. Her daughters became successful in the work place and learned homemaking, gardening and artistic skills from her.

Mom loves her Savior and always valued her testimony and her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully throughout her life in Primary in Relief Society and as a ward organist.

Mom loved music. Her mother sent her on her bicycle into town with eggs from the farm to pay for piano lessons. In her adult years she took the opportunity of learning to play the violin and attended a church course in organ playing. She learned all she could and served as a ward organist until her late 80s.

Mom hungered for learning throughout her life. She earned her general class ham radio license and earned her CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) certificate. She was president of the SAL-UTE Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International in Utah which provided scholarships for students attending Salt Lake Community College. She helped organize and was present when the governor signed the Secretaries Week proclamation for the State of Utah. She passed the Certified Professional Secretary exams administered by Professional Secretaries International. Her winters were spent reading, taking courses, and researching family history and history of the Uintah Basin. She always made good use of her time.

Those fortunate to know mom loved and admired her for her sweet kindness, home cooking, beautiful yard, independence and willingness to serve. Mom was a peacemaker, nurse, friend, and confidant. She loved flowers, crocheting, and travel. She loved the mountain and desert scenery every direction from Vernal, and everything little pig. Mom was frugal, wise, and innovative and could always get by on what she had.

Mom is survived by children Robert E (Norma) Lambert, Sandy; Kenneth L (Susan) Lambert, West Jordan; and Brenda (Ray) Gaumond, Tooele. Additionally, she is survived by 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Her parents, her brother Lynn (Barbara) McCarrell, and sister Leora (Chuck) Hazelbush, daughter Kathleen, and granddaughter Stacey Wolfley preceded her in death.
