Janet Nelson Obituary
Janet Marie Nelson of Vernal, Utah died on September 10th, 2020 at the age of 83. She was born in Vernal, UT on July 4, 1937, to Lila Lois Chivers and Stanton Leonard Robins. She was raised in Vernal with sister, Marilyn and among many lifelong friends.
Jan graduated from Uintah High School. She was a cheerleader, involved in school activities, and performed in many school assemblies. She attended Salt Lake Community College and Utah State University.
On June 14, 1957, Jan married Harden Nelson, Jr. They celebrated 57 years of marriage together. They were sealed in the Vernal Temple. Jan and Harden were devoted to raising their children, Stacy, Scott, Darin, and Debbie. Jan delighted in her family.
When Harden was in business with Karl Baese at K B Sales, Janet worked for them. In 1978, Carol Allen and Janet opened and ran the first Maverick Gas Station. She also worked as a secretary for the Vernal Chamber of Commerce, Slaugh Real Estate Ins. Co.and for Deseret Power Plant.
Jan loved meeting people, and she always made others feel comfortable. She made many wonderful friends throughout her life. She had an incredible sense of humor and could always make others smile. Jan could find the funny things in life and enjoyed a great laugh.
Music was always a part of Jans life. She loved to sing. She was a wonderful pianist and accompanist. She played by ear as well as could read any piece of music. She accompanied many vocal groups and soloists and was always willing to play for others. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Jan served as her ward organist and pianist for the Primary and Relief Society for many years.
Jan is survived by her children, daughter Stacy Nelson, sons Scott Nelson, and Darin Nelson (Kristy), 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and her sister, Marilyn Bennion.
She was preceded in death by Husband Harden Nelson Jr., Parents Lila and Stan Robins, Daughter Debra Pummell and Grandson Brandon Nelson.
Funeral services for Janet Marie Nelson will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 6-8PM and Monday 9:45-10:45AM all at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
