Jesse York Obituary

Jesse Raymond York, our beloved father and grandfather, left this world on Friday, March 15, 2024 in Vernal, Utah. He lived and loved life for a remarkable 95 years. Born in a simpler era, his journey through life has been marked by resilience, hard work, and a deep love of family.

Jesse was born to Jesse Bartlett York and Mary Alice Hardy on December 7, 1928 in Vernal, Utah. His first few years were spent in Vernal, with many grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins until the small family moved to Hiawatha. While in Hiawatha he attended a one-room school through the 8th grade. Jesse had only one sibling, a younger sister Sharon, whom he adored and was close to throughout his life.

When Jesse was high school age they moved back to Vernal, and he attended Uintah High School where he played football and basketball. He graduated in 1947. It was there that Jesse met his sweetheart, Eva Reynolds, and they were married in 1948; later sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1988.

Jesse and Eva walked through life together for the next 69 years. She was always the most important thing to him. Besides raising their children they served in church callings together and were able to travel to many areas of the world. He lovingly cared for her for several years before her death in 2017.

Professionally, Jesse's life was largely intertwined with the oilfield industry, a sector known for it's demanding nature and the resilience it required. His career in this field was not just a job but a journey that required he and his family to move multiple times. He worked his way up to eventually become the Area Superintendent over all the southern and eastern states.

Together Eva and Jesse had three children; Connie, Marilyn, and Rick. Jesse was always a pillar of practical wisdom and strength to his family.

Jesse retired from Loffland Brothers in 1974, at which time he and Eva moved back to Vernal and built their home in Glines, where they lived for the next 50 years. He was a successful businessman in Vernal, supervising and partnering in LaSalle Oil Company, Allwestern Drilling, and Northwest Carriers, an oil water service company.

Over the next 50 years Jesse was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints and in the community. He was an avid golfer which provided him with many friends and a way to stay active. He was one of the main sponsors of the yearly Vernal Golf Classic which was the second largest golf tournament in Utah for over 20 years.

Jesse collected friends all over the country and in all walks of life. He was generous and kind. People were drawn to his outgoing personality and quick sense of humor. He was always happy and joking, even in his last declining years.

More than anything Jesse loved his family. He was blessed with three children, 13 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. He loved playing golf every Monday with Rick, backyard bbqs, family Christmas parties, years of softball and basketball games, traveling with his family, and of course the annual Easter Egg hunt he did every year for his grandchildren.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; his parents, his sister Sharon and brother-in-law Bruce Scholer; and a younger brother Asa Kent.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m at the Glines Stake Center, 78 Aggie Blvd. A viewing will be held for family and friends preceding the funeral from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
