On Wednesday, April 27, 2022 John Fenus passed away peacefully at home in Vernal, Utah with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on May 28, 1948, John lived to be 73 years old.
In his early childhood days he spent camping and/or fishing with his parents and siblings. His father passed away when he was only five years old, but his mother continued to take him and his siblings on trips to the mountains. These trips created a passion for the outdoors that carried on through adulthood that he then passed onto his children.
In his adult life John had many careers but like many people in the basin he was a roughneck until he retired. His biggest passion was fishing, and he was good at it. His family loved to tease him and one year, on his annual "MANcation" trip, he had to use a barbie fishing pole so the others could have some hope of keeping up. He still caught the only fish that day. Which made for an ongoing joke, that even with a pink barbie pole he could still out fish anyone.
John loved to stay busy and had many other hobbies he loved to do as well, including: gardening, rock hunting, woodworking, and camping. John loved to watch shows and one could escape a "Hell on Wheels" binge session with him as the show had captivated him. When he found a favorite show he made all his kids watch them with him whether they wanted to or not and we jokingly said that was payback for our teenage years.
John was known for his incredible heart and always giving a hand in times of need, he told the best fisherman tales, always joking and laughing, and he was loved by many. His ability to share his passions with everyone created precious memories his family and friends will always cherish.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ann Bullock and father Andrew Fenus.
John is survived by his wife Sue Fenus, brother Jim Fenus, sister Bonnie Allen, seven children: Shawn Fenus, Mary Ann, Andy Fenus, Charity Sitton, Wes Fenus, Brandi Beasley, and Jenny Noon. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
