Karma LaVon (Smuin) Bascom

Karma LaVon (Smuin) Bascom, age 80 of Vernal, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday October 28, 2023 in Roosevelt, Utah.

"LaVon" was born January 17, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Keith Horace Smuin and Karma (Elliot) Smuin. LaVon graduated from Uintah High School in 1961 and then married her High School Sweetheart Gary Bascom on December 14, 1961. Lavon worked many years as a Real Estate Agent and took the utmost care of all of her clients. She also worked as a Nurses aid and her greatest joy was taking care of the newborn babies.

LaVon loved playing card games with her family and friends. She was an avid Pinochle, Hand and Foot, and Rummikub player. She loved spending time with her family on camping trips and vacations. LaVon was never one to sit still and was always on the go wanting to see as many places as possible. She enjoyed many vacations with her husband prior to his passing and treasured those memories. She is now reunited with the love of her life and enjoying their greatest adventure together.

LaVon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many callings, including Relief Society President. Most of all LaVon loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

LaVon is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lori (Ellis) Bascom (Kirt), daughter, Michelle (Joey) McClelland, sons, Steve (Karen) Bascom, Tracey Navanick, sisters, Kathy (Charles) Willard, Caroline (Mark) Maybe. Grandchildren, Dillon, Casey, Chad, Melissa, Rylee, Brittnie and Matthew and many great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gary Lee Bascom, daughter, Marsha Bascom, son, Kirt Ray Bascom, and sisters, Diane (Dennis) Henline and LaRue Smuin.

The family wants to express our sincere gratitude to all of the family, friends and the Villa for the loving care given to LaVon in her last weeks of life. She was such as special lady and touched so many people's lives. We are all better for knowing her.

Services for LaVon will be held Saturday November 11, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Vernal 6th Ward Chapel (850 West 100 North). Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:45pm ~ 1:45pm at the church prior to the services. Interment in Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
