LaRue Smuin passed away on Sept. 10, 2023, at the age 78, two days before her 79th birthday. She was born on Sept 12, 1944, to Karma Elliott Smuin and Keith Horace Smuin in Salt Lake City, Utah.
LaRue was the 2nd of six children and was raised in Vernal, UT. She was a very creative individual with great artistic talent. She loved to craft and paint. She was very kind and generous, and loved her family and her religion with all her heart.
LaRue served two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in both Fort Duchesne, Utah and Rapid City, South Dakota. She centered her life around her family with her greatest joys being her nieces and nephews. She always went out of her way to make her family and friends feel special. Whether it was a letter, a visit, or a quick phone call to sing "Happy Birthday," LaRue was there to celebrate.
She is survived by her siblings: LaVon Bascom, Kathy and (Charles) Willard, Caroline and (Mark) Mabey, brother-in-law Dennis Henline, many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, beloved friends, and her sweet cat Dolly. LaRue is preceded in death by Keith Horace Smuin (father) and Karma Elliott Smuin (mother), Diane Henline (sister), Keith Smuin Jr. (brother), and Gary Bascom (brother-in-law).
Funeral Services for LaRue will be held Saturday, September 16, at 12:00pm at the Vernal 6th Ward chapel (850 West 100 North). Visitation for family and friends will be held that morning from 9:45am ~ 11:45am all at the church. Interment will be in Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
