Layne Michael Matson was born April 2, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. At his 20 week ultrasound his parents, Nicholas Matson and Rylee (Harris) Matson found out he had serious health concerns. Layne was diagnosed with Left Isomerism Heterotaxy Syndrome, which caused multiple severe heart defects. The doctors told his parents to prepare themselves because they might not be taking a baby home after delivery. Layne beat all odds by being able to come home with no surgery, oxygen or feeding tubes. He had three and a half glorious months where he thrived with his older brother Asher (2) and brought such joy happiness to his family. Layne always had big, bright curious eyes that loved to stare right into your soul and take everything in around him. He had a contagious belly laugh and a smile that would instantly make those around him smile back. He loved to babble and hear himself yell. Layne was the perfect younger brother because he would smile when Asher threw toys at him and constantly had his eyes on Asher in admiration. At four months old, Layne had open-heart surgery at Primarys Children Hospital. He spend almost two months there with the angelic staff and wonderful cardiac team. Unfortunately, there was no more medical interventions to better his quality of life. He came home on hospice to finish out his time on Earth surrounded by family and friends who love him more than words can describe. Layne taught us that a smile can make all the difference in hard situations, youre stronger than you think you are and to enjoy every mundane moment. He had completed all he needed to on Earth returned to his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2020.
