Lura Allison (Stroup) Melancon

Lura Allison (Stroup) Melancon passed away on May 2, 2023 at the age of 61 in Vernal, Utah. Allison was born on October 24, 1961 to Mary Irene (Smith) Stroup and William Roy Stroup in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Allison married Charles Ray Melancon on August 29, 1983 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Allison enjoyed playing basketball in her youth and especially loved the Oklahoma Sooner football team. She was an avid sports fan her entire life.

She is survived by her husband; Charles Melancon of Vernal, Utah, brother; Buck Stroup (Mary) of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, sister; Robin (Lance) Hamby of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, her five nephews and nieces; nephews; Jeremy Wayne Stroup, Dana Lee Whorton, Aaron Hamby, Alan Hamby, and Hayden Hamby, nieces; Christie Renee Whorton, Shana Whorton, Ashley Stroup, Carrie Stroup, and Whitney Stroup, five great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by five stepchildren: Don Melancon, Bill (Kim) Melancon, Susan Melancon, Jeffrey (Caren) Melancon, and Russ Melancon. She was especially close with her cousin Phyllis Faye of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

She is preceded in death by her father; William Roy Stroup, mother; Mary Irene (Smith) Stroup, and sister Julie Renee (Stroup) Whorton.

No services will be held in Vernal. Arrangements under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
