Margaret Payne Obituary

Stubborn as always, Margaret Ann Payne, also known as Peggy, Grandma, Shorty, and Mom, passed away three days after the doctor said she would not survive the night. She quietly passed the morning of February 1, 2019. With loved ones in and out of her hospital room we could not help but reminisce about the good times. The time when Peggy met her husband Al Payne while crusing down 16th street mall, to where her father said that she was going to marry that man one day and Peggy admonished that she would not marry him. Six months later led to walking down the aisle to 49 years later when Al passed away leaving three children and lasting memories. John was the oldest, Jimmy was the middle child and last but not least Karen who was the youngest and the only girl.As a family they moved from one home in Denver to another untill 1975 and they finally ended up in Idledale, Colorado. Here there were many Christmas eve dinner parties with an abundance of family, meatloaf and potato salad, noteworthy road trips from one state to another, endless hours of hide and seek, many nights of poker, gin rummy and pinnacle, the record player always ready to spin, or one of the many Colorado baseball or football games playing in the backyard. After, Al's passing Peggy moved to Rangely, Colorado to live near her son John Payne and his family. While introducing herself to the new neighbors she would comment that she was "the Payne who lived next door." Here she spent 15 years moving from the apartment behind Giovanni's, John's Itallian Restaurant, to Eagle Crest assisted living home. She spent five years here with endless nights of Skip-Bo, multiple Krispy cream Donuts and many Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and developing relationships with everyone she met.All in all, Peggy was one to never complain and always did what needed to be done. She has taught us life lessons without even teaching us. She taught these lessons by just doing them.Peggy was loved by her two sons and wifes John and Sandy Payne, and Jim and Jamie Payne and her daughter and husband, Karen and Hal Midcap. Her ten grandchildren: Jenifer and Matt Noel, Jason and his wife Amy Payne, Jessica and her husband Scott Hendrickson, Mindy and her husband Mickey Denison, Cassie Payne, Dan and his wife Jessi Payne, Trists and her husband Jeff Soucy, Kalie Mdcap, Rebecca Midcap and William Midcap. Peggy often was bragging about the number of great-grand kids: Caleb, Colton, Chloe, Ryleigh, Kambrie, Nicolette, Lily, Jordon, David, Micaylee, Alisa, James, Landon, Elly, Gunnar, and Bearett.Peggy is preceeded in death by her husband Al, parents Ralph and Florence Brown, brother Jake Brown, and grandaughter Holly Midcap.
