Susanne Charlene (Olmstead) McPhail

Susanne Charlene (Olmstead) McPhail was born January 21, 1947 in Glendale, California to Ken and Evelyn Olmstead. She had one brother, Dale and one sister, Debbie. Susanne was a fun, loving, and creative person, with a few close friends. She loved to go with her father to work doing a laundry service. She loved helping her mother and father around the house. Susanne was a very caring and honest person who was adored by many. She graduated from Burbank High School in Burbank, California.

In 1967, Susanne married Bill McPhail in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they had three children: Dorothy McPhail, Rachael McPhail, and Russell McPhail. Many years later, Susanne and Bill divorced, but remained friends throughout the coming years. Susanne loved and adored all of her children and was very proud of them through their accomplishments.

In 2018 with all the kids grown up, she moved in with her daughter Rachael to get more help with her care. In 2020 she became adventurous and moved east to Colorado with her daughter to be closer to her grandson. Ryan Johnson, and granddaughter Angie Johnson, and great-grandson, Raiden Johnson.

Susanne lived a very full life and wore many hats. Her first priority was being a loving and caring mother. She then ventured out, as her children grew older, she became an entrepreneur having owned her own businesses. She was the owner of a salon as a cosmetologist and loved to do nails. She also became a realtor and worked as a DMV employee and had her own registration business.

Susanne was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. From cookouts to holiday get togethers, she enjoyed spending time with her family and also later in life, her Favorite dog Dutchie. Susanne was very crafty, she loved to make things from holiday and birthday cards to blankets, she could create anything she wanted. All of her work was very beautiful.

In November 2021, Susanne was diagnosed with stage four cancer. She quickly started declining in health and was able to spend one last Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by many family and friends who love and adore her. She passed away peacefully with her close family by her side on December 02, 2021 from the progression of her diagnosis.

Susanne is survived by two daughters, Dorothy McPhail of Los Angeles, California, Rachael McPhail of Rangely, Colorado; and son, Russell McPhail of Lancaster, California; one sister, Debbie Vintere of California; one niece and one nephew; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A Celebration of Life for Susanne will be held Saturday December 18, 2021 at 2pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West). Online condolences may be shared at www.AshleyValleyFuneralHome.com.
