William 'Bill' Hall Obituary

William Carl Hall "Bill"

With heavy hearts, we temporarily say goodbye to this very accomplished, kind, and generous man. He was a fearless man who embodied hard work, dedication, and charity in all areas of his life. Born in Meeker, CO, the second of three children of Joseph Carl and Edith Leff Hall. Moving often, they lived mostly in Eastern Colorado and Nebraska. From a young age, he felt very protective of his younger sister, Marie. He was often around his older brother, though they didn't live together, and various cousins, aunts, and uncles for family events. He had volumes of stories about his childhood and loved to talk about his Grandparents' homesteaded Bobcat Ranch north of Douglas Pass. He surely loved his family.

At age 15, in Hastings, Nebraska, he began his love of Martial Arts and it became a lifelong passion. He kept many friends from high school and loved to visit with them years after leaving. After Bill's high school graduation, he moved to Vernal, where he stayed for more than three decades.

At age 20, he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for which he was always grateful. He had a strong testimony that Jesus is the Christ and always strove to live an honest, honorable life. He was particularly proud of his pioneer ancestors' heritage (Isaac and Rachel Blizzard Lee).

He began his career driving truck for many businesses and acquired the name of Chopper. He made hundreds of lifelong friends along the way as he worked out in "The Patch." He loved photographing rigs and semis in all the various remote locations. He could've written a book with all those stories and pictures. Someone recently and accurately called him an oilfield historian.

As a Martial Arts instructor, he earned the rank of 8th Dan in Taekwondo, the highest award you can earn while alive. He also earned high ranks in other styles. He formed Martial Arts Alliance with five other schools and led the groups as the highest-ranking member. He was in his element when he was leading a 'testing' or tournament. Oh, how he dearly loved teaching Martial Arts.

Bill married Jennifer Brotherson in the Manti LDS temple in his late 20s. Together they welcomed two children, McKade and Josie. He often told stories of his trip to help drill a geothermal well in Hawaii because the four of them went together. He deeply loved his children.

In 1999, he began his own business as H & H Trucking. He took pride in his Western Star winch truck and Peterbuilt highway truck. His extensive mechanical and welding skills served him well; his abilities and stamina made him a powerhouse. If the thing had a motor, he understood it inside and out. His wealth of knowledge made him a natural when it came to teaching others about the oilfield, truck driving, oversized loads, and operating heavy machinery.

In 2010, he married Suzanne Hart Call; later on, they were joyfully sealed in the Vernal Temple. She came to the marriage with four grown children and one grandchild. Over time two more grandchildren brought him even more joy. He treated his step-children as his own and enjoyed many adventures with them.

He loved long road trips, backroad trips in his pickup or his motorcycles, taking pictures, going to Church and to a number of LDS temples, and teaching Martial Arts to his students twice a week. He made a point of staying in touch with so very many friends on a regular basis. He called his Mom, Marie, and Bob almost daily to visit with them, which shows his great love and care.

Bill, Chopper, Master Hall - was always quick to entertain anyone with stories and jokes. He was comfortable visiting with people from all walks of life. He was highly accomplished, hard-working, and tenacious with every task. He was a self-made man who came from very humble beginnings; he worked hard, looked out for others, and helped the downtrodden often because he had such a big heart. He will be deeply missed. He believed in eternal life, families being sealed together forever, and that death only brought a temporary separation. Our profound loss at his passing, still, is quite hard to bear. We celebrate a life well-lived and his legacy of generosity and love.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Carl Hall, all four of his beloved grandparents, his mother-in-law, Joan G. Hart, and by his step-son, M. Dustin Call.

Bill is survived by children McKade and Josie Hall; step-children Dave Call, Darren Call, Christie (Trever) Jenkins and grandchildren Tanner, Beckham, and Ellie Jenkins. He is also survived by his mother, Edith Leff Hall, sister Marie Daniels, and brother Bob (Becky) Hall as well as nieces and nephews on the Hall, Leff, and Hart sides of the family.
